Crazy8's 2012 Finalists

There were so many great projects pitched this year the jury couldn't pick just 12, so congratulations to the 13 finalists moving on to the next round!  The finalists will now have the opportunity to workshop their script with a professional story editor.
 
 “A Mother’s Love” - Camille Mitchell (Writer/Director)
 When her boys fail to come home from school one afternoon, a mother is plunged into a confusing and disorienting search, as it becomes clear that the world she is living in is not as it used to be.
 
“A Red Girl’s Reasoning” - Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers (Writer/Director) & Rose Stiffarm (Producer)
 After the justice system fails the victim of a brutal, racially-driven sexual assault, she becomes a motorcycle-riding, ass-kicking vigilante who takes on the attackers of other women who've suffered the same fate.
 
"Babies in the Wall” - Doreen Manuel (Writer/Director)
 Mary is catapulted into a horrific struggle to right old wrongs when she discovers the bones of the missing and murdered babies of an Indian residential school.

“Capture the Flag” - Emma Campbell & Mitchell Stookey (Writers) & Darren Bachynski (Writer/Director)
 Things get serious for two young boys playing a game of Capture the Flag when they get turned around in the woods and can't find their way back to their campsite.
 
"Ch'anchàl Gyù' (Worm in Moose Head)" - Jeneen Frei Njootli (Writer/Director) & Matthew Johnson (Producer)
 Kahinjik, the central hero of many Gwitchin folk tales, is summoned by two elders who charge him with traveling to a foreign land - the crystal city (of Vancouver) - to retrieve the trapped soul of an ancestor.

“High Pressure Area” - Carleen Kyle (Writer/Director)
A former weather girl struggling with her current role as full-time caregiver for her incapacitated father decides to take creative advantage of two evangelists who show up at her father's door.
 
“Nudis” - Wayne Robinson (Writer/Director) & Nigel Edwards (Producer)
 Sigmund, a conservative and conventional corporate climber, is struggling to complete a career-defining brief on an impossible timeline when he realizes that all of his co-workers have abandoned their clothes, and with them, their social masks.
 
“Peddle and Ride” - Carmen Lavigne & David Leach (Writers), Devon Ferguson (Director) & Bim Narine (Producer)
 On the eve of their first big show, the members of Dragon Puke must devise an elaborate heist to raise the funds to bail out their drummer, who was busted robbing a coffee shop so he could buy the band new costumes.

“Sleepy Stories” - Andrew Rowe (Writer/Director)
 A desperate insomniac resorts to calling the Sleepy Stories service, who send out the incredibly-boring Bertram to talk him to sleep.

“Survivor Grasp”
- Stephen Emery-Coderre (Writer/Director)
 Charles still carries the wounds from losing too many friends to AIDS a decade earlier, and it drives him to attempt to reconnect with a former lover whom he learns is hospitalized for cancer treatment.
 
“Telephone” - Andrew de Villiers (Writer/Director) & Jorah Fraser Porteous (Producer)
 It's 1999, cell phones and instant messaging are changing how young people communicate, and Bobby's band is playing a big house party where he and Jeannie will see each other for the first time since their break-up. Jealous Veronica texts a nasty rumour to drive them even further apart, but the rumour takes on a life of its own as it passes around the party.
 
“The Vessel” - Marshall Axani (Writer/Director)
A mysterious device allows an operative on a rescue mission to manipulate the people standing between him and his captured brother.
 
“Underneath” - Laura Hope (Writer) & Tyler Funk (Writer/Director)
 Emily becomes obsessed with her suspicion that the newest member of her swim team, a young burqini-clad Iranian woman, is hiding something.
